Delegate Travel & Venue Advisory · October 2026
Everything European delegates need to know — from visas and flights to health preparations and hotel recommendations — for a smooth, well-prepared arrival at the Uganda-EU Business Forum 2026.
Conference Venue
The Forum is hosted at Serena Kampala Hotel — East Africa's premier five-star business hotel and Kampala's most established venue for high-level government, diplomatic and investment events.
Kintu Road, Nakasero Hill, Kampala · Uganda · +256 312 309000 · reservations.kampala@serenahotels.com
Serena Kampala is situated on Nakasero Hill, one of Kampala's most prestigious and secure locations, adjacent to the city's diplomatic quarter. The hotel is within 5–10 minutes of the Uganda Investment Authority, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development, the Bank of Uganda, and the EU Delegation — making it an ideal base for delegate meetings beyond the Forum itself.
The hotel's conference facilities include multiple breakout rooms, private meeting suites, and outdoor networking spaces that the Forum Secretariat will configure to support panel sessions, the Exhibition, B2B Matchmaking, and the Deals Room over both event days.
High-level panel sessions on energy policy, Global Gateway, and green industrialisation, accommodating up to 500 delegates with simultaneous interpretation facilities.
A dedicated space for Ugandan project developers, government agencies, and European technology companies to showcase investment-ready opportunities and innovations.
Private, confidential meeting rooms reserved exclusively for pre-arranged B2G, B2B, and investment structuring discussions. Access requires confirmed registration and matchmaking allocation.
Hosted lunches and evening receptions across the two days provide additional facilitated networking time in a relaxed setting.
Getting to Kampala
Kampala is well connected from major European hub airports. Entebbe International Airport (IATA: EBB) is Uganda's sole international gateway, located approximately 45 km south of Kampala on the shores of Lake Victoria.

Flight information is indicative based on available routing patterns as of 2025–2026. Delegates should confirm schedules and book via their preferred travel agent or airline directly. Business class is recommended for trans-continental sectors for Forum-day readiness.
The Forum Secretariat will operate scheduled shuttle services between Entebbe Airport and Serena Hotel on 18–19 October (arrival days) and 21–22 October (departure days). Details will be communicated to registered delegates four weeks prior to the event.
Serena Hotel offers a private airport transfer service bookable via reservations.kampala@serenahotels.com. Distance: approximately 45 km. Journey time: 45–60 minutes outside peak hours; allow 90 minutes during evening peak (17:00–19:00). Cost: approx. US$40–60 per car.
Uber and Bolt operate reliably between Entebbe Airport and central Kampala. SafeBoda is available for shorter in-city journeys. Airport-to-city fares typically UGX 60,000–100,000 (approximately US$16–27). Confirm fare before departure. Note: Always use GPS-tracked, app-booked vehicles rather than informal taxis.
Uber and Bolt are the most reliable options for delegate use. Download both apps and load a payment card before arrival. Typical fare across central Kampala: UGX 8,000–20,000 (US$2–6).
If self-driving, note that Uganda drives on the left side of the road. Traffic in Kampala can be heavy, particularly 07:30–09:00 and 17:00–19:00. Serena Hotel has secure on-site parking for delegates.
Uganda observes East Africa Time (EAT), UTC+3. There is no daylight saving adjustment. Central European delegates should note a 2-hour ahead difference; UK delegates a 3-hour ahead difference.
October falls in Uganda's short rainy season. Expect temperatures of 22–28°C. Short afternoon rain showers are common and brief. Pack a light rain layer. Morning and evening temperatures are pleasant. Formal business attire is the norm at the Forum.
Visa & Entry Requirements
Uganda operates an e-visa system for most European nationalities. The process is straightforward and can be completed online in advance. Delegates are strongly advised to apply no later than 4 weeks before travel.
Uganda's e-visa portal accepts applications from most European Union nationalities. A tourist/business visa is appropriate for Forum participation. Apply at least 4 weeks before travel to allow processing time and any unforeseen delays.
You will need: valid passport (minimum 6 months validity beyond intended stay), recent passport photograph, return flight itinerary, proof of accommodation (hotel booking confirmation), and a letter of invitation or Forum registration confirmation.
Visa fees are payable online by credit or debit card. A single-entry tourist/business visa for Uganda is currently US$50 for most European nationalities. Verify the current fee at the time of application.
Approved e-visas are issued by email. Print a physical copy to present alongside your passport at Entebbe Airport immigration. Processing typically takes 3–10 business days; allow more time during peak periods.
Present your passport, printed e-visa, and return ticket at the immigration desk. You may be asked to confirm the purpose of your visit (business/conference) and your accommodation address. Yellow fever vaccination proof is mandatory (see Health Advisory section).

Accommodation
The Forum Secretariat has negotiated a preferential delegate rate at Serena Kampala Hotel. For delegates seeking alternative accommodation, the following hotels are within a short distance of the venue and are recommended based on security, connectivity and delegate-grade service.
Hotel information is indicative as of 2026. Delegates should book directly and confirm current rates, availability and services with each property. The Forum Secretariat bears no responsibility for third-party accommodation arrangements.
Health & Medical Advisory
Uganda is a safe and welcoming destination. European delegates should take straightforward health precautions — primarily vaccination and antimalarial medication — to ensure a comfortable and incident-free visit. Consult your GP or a travel health clinic at least 6 weeks before departure.
Health advisory guidance is general and based on WHO, ECDC and UK FCDO travel health recommendations current to mid-2026. Delegates must consult a travel health professional or their GP for personalised medical advice before travelling.
Essential Practical Information
A concise guide to currency, communications, safety, dress code and cultural norms to help you arrive prepared and make the most of your time in Kampala.
Currency: Ugandan Shilling (UGX). US Dollars are widely accepted in hotels, high-end restaurants and taxis — carry small US notes (US$1, US$5, US$10). ATMs dispensing UGX are available at Entebbe Airport, Serena Hotel and throughout Nakasero. Major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard) accepted at Serena Hotel and most international-standard venues.
Purchase a local SIM card (MTN Uganda or Airtel Uganda) at Entebbe Airport arrivals on arrival — approximately US$2 for the SIM plus data packages from US$3. Uganda has good 4G coverage in Kampala. Serena Hotel provides high-speed conference WiFi. Roaming charges from European networks are high — a local SIM is strongly recommended.
Uganda uses Type G plugs (UK-style, three square pins) at 240V/50Hz — the same as the UK. EU delegates (Type C, F, E plugs) will need a plug adapter. Universal multi-adapters are available at Entebbe Airport. Bring one from home to avoid overpriced airport versions. Power supply is stable in Nakasero; Serena Hotel has backup generation.
Forum sessions require smart business attire. Ugandan business culture is conservative and formal dress is expected and respected. For evening networking events, business casual (no tie required) is appropriate. October temperatures of 22–28°C are comfortable in lightweight business clothing. Pack a light jacket for air-conditioned conference rooms.
Kampala is generally safe for business travellers, particularly in the Nakasero, Kololo and Muyenga areas. Standard urban precautions apply: do not display valuables or carry large amounts of cash; use app-based taxis (Uber/Bolt) rather than hailing vehicles on the street; avoid isolated areas after dark. The Serena Hotel area and diplomatic quarter are among the city's safest zones.
Ugandan business culture values relationship-building, respectful greetings, and patience. Address counterparts formally (Mr./Ms./Dr.) until invited to use first names. Business cards are exchanged with both hands or the right hand. Meetings may start slightly later than scheduled — plan accordingly for side meetings. English is the official business language.
Always ask permission before photographing individuals, particularly government officials. Photography of airports, military installations, and government buildings is prohibited. Within the Forum, photography guidelines will be communicated by the Secretariat. Uganda's scenery — including Lake Victoria views from Nakasero — is spectacular and widely photographed.
Delegates wishing to combine the Forum with leisure should consider Bwindi Impenetrable Forest (gorilla trekking, 8h drive), Queen Elizabeth National Park (4h), the Source of the Nile at Jinja (2h), and Lake Victoria boat excursions. Uganda was ranked a top 2024 destination by National Geographic, CNN, and Lonely Planet.
